You CAN quilt your own quilts!
Brenda would love to show you how!
We will move from beyond the basic stitch in the ditch technique of walking foot quilting to some more exciting ways to use your walking foot to accentuate your piecing and add texture to your quilt.
Using the book, Walk by Jacquie Gering as our guide, we will explore several techniques using straight lines, curved lines and even spirals all done with the safety and comfort of your walking foot.
Walking Foot Quilting Class Supply List
Taught by Brenda Fyles
Required
- Sewing Machine-clean and in good working order with a new 80/12 needle
- Walking Foot-on your machine and ready to go. If your machine has an integrated dual feed, you can use this option although I prefer the Walking Foot. You may want to try each foot out and compare the difference, that is fine too! I like the 20D Bernina Foot for dual feed quilting which is an open applique foot.
- Quilt Sandwiches-have 2 or 3 small quilt sandwiches ready to go. My preference is to use two fat quarters of fabric with a thin cotton or cotton/poly blend batting. Use a solid or tone on tone print so you can see your stitching. Make sure they are pressed and basted with 505 Basting Spray.
- 505 Basting Spray-PNQS has both a large and a small can-you don’t need to bring this to class. Have your quilt sandwiches basted with 505 and ready to sew!
- Small Scissors-for trimming threads
- 50 wt Aurifil Thread-in machine and bobbin, use a thread that will contrast with your fabric
Seam Ripper - Extension Table for your Machine-if you have one
- Both Zig Zag or Wide (not single hole) AND Single Hole Stitch Plate for your machine-if you need a screwdriver to change between the two, bring that as well
- Walk-walking foot book by Jacquie Gering
- Marking Tools/Pencils-bring a variety if you have them
- Ruler-an 18” ruler and a smaller one for checking distances between sewing lines
- Grabaroos or Regi’s Grip-quilting gloves
