The Big Reveal and other matters…..
Christmas and New Years came and went so fast…..as always I’m an early bird and waiting for the clue is a challenge for me...I’m with the Aussie’s, feels like I have been waiting all day to begin the fun.
I have kept up with all the sewing, however, I missed the writing last week. The design wall continues to dance with projects and fun. Soon, Pine Needles will be closed for inventory and new samples, both of which I am very involved with and excited by.
Choices….Bonnie threw in some more string piecing in one of the final clues. Since my kit of colors consist of all yard goods, some other choice had to be made. I didn’t feel a solid background chunk of fabric would be the best choice so I cut the strips and sewed them together to create the rectangles that were required.
Aren’t these strips just so subtly yummy….the backgrounds came from a grouping of fabrics called “Cookie Dough”. Although there are no chocolate chips in these fabrics, I can almost smell the vanilla. This part went together fairly quickly. I worked with shorter sections of fabrics to get a little more variety in my sections.
Next up is putting all those adorable red and white 4 patches together to create a batch of 16 patches.
These little gems went together lickety split and I just love how the center parts spin and feel like a peppermint twist. Since I chose very neutral backgrounds, the colors are very crisp between the red and the white.
Here they are all together and finished.
I’ve kept a fabric basket near my sewing station with all the clues….I can’t help but wonder what the finished quilt will look like and whether Bonnie will let us know on New Year’s Eve what it will look like. My fabric selection is nearly depleted so either I have miscalculated or the end is very near.
Meanwhile, another queen sized quilt is finished and ready to quilt. The fabric line is Dandy Andy by Moda. Be sure to stop in next week on Thursday. It’s quilted and ready to bind. Spring colors of tangerine and grey to match the spring like weather we are having.
Meanwhile work continues on my Stitcher’s Garden quilt… a little bit of everything technique wise is featured in this quilt. Fun quilted backgrounds, couched threads, free motion quilting, decorative stitch borders and sew much more…..hope to see you in class.
And then the reveal is here….be sure to check out Bonnie’s website for the full view. When I look at her finished quilt I see beautiful orange poppy flowers set in a crisp chain of pinwheels.
This past Tuesday was my day off and between taking down some Christmas decorations, creating some embroidery samples, cooking and laundry…...I began to put my mystery quilt together.

Since I opted against the string pieces orange sections my quilt has a more crisp edge to the blocks rather than the poppy effect but I love it all the same. Next up the borders.
Meanwhile in the kitchen, my daughter was baking up a storm….it is a triple layered chocolate cake with homemade toffee crunch in the layers and the most delicious chocolate buttercream frosting. So much for the New Year’s resolutions! I think a fresh cup of coffee is in order and a slice of that cake.
Until next time, Happy Sewing! Thursday will find me trying to wrap up Stitcher’s Garden and a few other Pine Needles Projects….there is always something under my needles stop in and see what is new...other’s are always sewing something new too!
