December 31, 2019
2019 was an amazing year at the shop. We had so much happening, at times it was hard for us to keep up, the days flew by! It is so true that time does fly when you are having fun! In order to keep this post from becoming a book I would like to highlight just the main event each month.
January began with the usual, winter clearance and the dreaded physical inventory count. After that was done and over Suzie took a trip with Tyler to Matalan, Mexico for some sunshine and an ocean view. At the same time Joy & I were feeling a bit slighted so we took off for a private sewing retreat at our cabin in Wisconsin. We got "frozen in" while we were there, extreme cold temperatures down to -38 degrees! Our husbands advised us to stay put rather than make the 4 hour trek in the frigid cold, but their biggest concern was if we had taken enough fabric along - tee hee. Our machines were buzzing away, Accuquilt and rotary cutters flying on a new BOM in 2 colorways (and other projects too). We totally enjoyed our time together, no schedule, we ate whenever we wanted, got up when we wanted, sewed to our hearts content, watched a marathon of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and Hoarders (strange combination, we know) and ended each day with a good bottle of wine in front of the fireplace. Suzie may have been in the warmth and us in the deep freeze but each of us had a wonderful winter getaway! Accuquilt Club also began a new BOM with precuts kits for everyone and this was a really fun year long project for the group.
February was the beginning of Judy Neimeyer's Quiltworks NEW Technique of the Month - the stunning Dinnerplate Dahlia Quilt. Our favorite Quiltworks Certified Instructor Julie Arrowood guided our monthly group expertly as she always does to make this one of a kind masterpiece. She is the best, she has so much experience and is so very kind and patient with beginners and advanced quilters all the same.
March brought us our favorite international quilting celebrity Kaye England. We have an awesome group as Kaye worked with the gals on accurate cutting with both AccuQuilt and her own Good Measure rulers. Our cheeks were sore from smiling so much at the end of the weekend as she has such a unique way of keeping everything fun. She is always a real treat to work with, she has a lifetime of experience in the quilting world and so generously shares it with everyone. The answer is YES, she has agreed to come back in 2020 for more fun times!
