2019 its a wrap!

2019 was an amazing year at the shop.  We had so much happening, at times it was hard for us to keep up, the days flew by!  It is so true that time does fly when you are having fun!  In order to keep this post from becoming a book I would like to highlight just the main event each month.

January began with the usual, winter clearance and the dreaded physical inventory count.  After that was done and over Suzie took a trip with Tyler to Matalan, Mexico for some sunshine and an ocean view.  At the same time Joy & I were feeling a bit slighted so we took off for a private sewing retreat at our cabin in Wisconsin.  We got "frozen in" while we were there, extreme cold temperatures down to -38 degrees! Our husbands advised us to stay put rather than make the 4 hour trek in the frigid cold, but their biggest concern was if we had taken enough fabric along - tee hee.  Our machines were buzzing away, Accuquilt and rotary cutters flying on a new BOM in 2 colorways (and other projects too).  We totally enjoyed our time together, no schedule, we ate whenever we wanted, got up when we wanted, sewed to our hearts content, watched a marathon of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and Hoarders (strange combination, we know) and ended each day with a good bottle of wine in front of the fireplace.  Suzie may have been in the warmth and us in the deep freeze but each of us had a wonderful winter getaway!  Accuquilt Club also began a new BOM with precuts kits for everyone and this was a really fun year long project for the group.

February was the beginning of Judy Neimeyer's Quiltworks NEW Technique of the Month - the stunning Dinnerplate Dahlia Quilt.  Our favorite Quiltworks Certified Instructor Julie Arrowood guided our monthly group expertly as she always does to make this one of a kind masterpiece.  She is the best, she has so much experience and is so very kind and patient with beginners and advanced quilters all the same.

March brought us our favorite international quilting celebrity Kaye England.  We have an awesome group as Kaye worked with the gals on accurate cutting with both AccuQuilt and her own Good Measure rulers.  Our cheeks were sore from smiling so much at the end of the weekend as she has such a unique way of keeping everything fun.  She is always a real treat to work with, she has a lifetime of experience in the quilting world and so generously shares it with everyone.  The answer is YES, she has agreed to come back in 2020 for more fun times!

April was a month to celebrate 20 years of Pine Needles and 7 years at our location here in Rochester!  A week long event with prizes, gifts, specials and more.  Lots of fun classes, clubs and the oh so popular Kimberbell 2-day events and VIP with a Spring Fling Theme.  Joy also hosted Bernina Fear No Fabric Academy for all of our 880 and 790 owners, each went home with new skills and inspiration.  A great month of celebrating YOU!
May found Suzie, Joy and Marcia in Kansas City for International Quilt Market.  We found many new things for the shop, ordered lots of fabric collections for the end of the year, perused the market floor and got our creativity batteries recharged for sure.  May also marked the month that we added the wonderful BabyLock line of sewing machines, embroidery machines and sergers to our PNQS family of products.  Very exciting indeed!
Oh my goodness, June!  We were so pleased to be able to host both the Bernina and AccuQuilt booths at the Minnesota Annual Quilt Show right here in Rochester.  We loved seeing so many folks both at the show and in the store.  We were thrilled to host a book signing night in the shop with quilting celebrities Bonnie Hunter, Kaye England, Gunrun Elea and Doug Leko, it was a jam packed night of festivities.  The  Minnesota show was held at the same time as Bernina University so we were sad to miss it (the only one we have ever missed) but we were still honored  at BU with many awards for a wonderful year including Bernina District Dealer of the Year and being #8 Bernina Dealer in the USA!  The last week of June five of us attended BabyLock product and technical training in Fenton Missouri.  It was a great experience from early morning to late nights full of leaning, sewing, serging and embroidery.  A very exciting week (and month) for all of us.
July is always slated for 2+ weeks of great deals at our Semi Annual Clearance.  We have one family that plans their summer vacation around this sale so they can get in on the great bargains either on the way to or from their cabin in Northern Minnesota!  It is a fun time for all of us, we so enjoy seeing all the happy Peeps going home with bags and bags of good buys and we love refilling the shop with fresh new fabrics!  July 2019 was also a bittersweet month for us.  Ardis, Marcia's mother, Suzie's grandma went to her heavenly home after 99 1/2 years on this earth.  She was everyone's Mom, friend, mentor, cheerleader, Grandma, a shining example of patience and loved all of us unselfishly and unconditionally.  Oh my, we miss her so so much.  Pine Needles is not quite the same without her dropping in from time to time.
August is Minnesota Shop Hop time.  We had the shop decked out with samples and kits galore.  The staff so enjoys seeing all the smiling faces, many of them only in August each year as they make the annual trips around Minnesota during this special hop.  The final week of August took Suzie, Joy and I to St. Louis for our first Babylock Annual Convention.  It was filled with classes, learning, inspiration and great fun
September kicked off the Fall season with our own One Stop Shop Hop featuring Minnesota's own Doug Leko.  The shop was bustling with Peeps and full of new samples from Antler Quilt Design many books and patterns.  Doug and his trunk show was a special feature at our Fall VIP, followed by lucky Peeps that got to take a class with him.  A very full and exciting weekend!
October ushered in our 15th annual Eagle Bluff Fall retreat.  The weekend was jam packed with gifts, sewing, quilting, games, relaxation and good old fashioned fellowship with quilters.  The laughter was plentiful and the sound of happy sewing machines filled the days and nights.  Fall retreat is a highlight for many.  In the shop we hosted  Bernina Academy 3 with National Educator Mary Collen.  It was indeed another great event and the gals all went home (many of them with new machines!) new skills and inspiration of new ways to use their machines.
Oh November how we loved you.  Claudia Dinnell of Claudia's Creations spent an entire week with our Peeps in the classroom!  She is the queen of machine embroidery extrordinaire and her multi hooping techniques are the absolute best!  We had an overfull classroom but no one seems to mind when Claudia is in the room.  Her projects are exclusive to her workshops, and the answer is YES, she will be coming back next year for another full week!  National Educator Betsy Carlson also made her way back to Rochester for another amazing Creative Quilting event.  We had the classroom all decked out with 5 Q20's for our Peeps to spend some time with them and all of them went home with happy new owners!  Rounding out the month was our own Joy with Academy events for 880/790 owners and another for 590 owners.  Again our Peeps were wowed with all that they can do with their machines!
December finished our year with a terrific OESD SPREE EVENT hosted by the amazing National Educator Kelli Rushing joining us all the way from Roanoke, Texas.  Everyone went home with 6 finished projects, tons of gifts and all the designs so they could go home and make more!  Indeed a great educational event on all things machine embroidery, a super relaxing, refreshing experience for everyone.  Our Tula Event with limited edition Bernina 770 and 570 machines was a huge success, so much so that we had a long waiting list, and yes we are hosting another in March for those that did not get in on the first round. Not to mention the Triple Treat Day, folks came form miles away to spend the day for Holiday VIP, Kimberbell Club and the final December Demo.  The consensus was to do this again!
So there it is, the highlights from 2019 at the shop.
It does not stop here, we have already scheduled lots of educators for 2020 for both Babylock & Bernina!
Plus we all have the expansion to look forward to!  Oh we are all so excited about this we can hardly stand it!!
The entire PNQS team wishes all of our Peeps from near and far a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!
Cheers to your next creative adventure!

I don't think I've ever been ready for a trip or event earlier than the night before. I have IDEAS for months, but those ideas don't come to fruition until the looming deadline of "if they don't trick or treat now, they don't trick or treat until next year" or "if you don't leave now, the airplane will leave without you" forces my hand and my sewing machine.
